Plane, trains, new friends
Aberdeen to London, to Roma! The first flight was uneventful, the second was rather fun. I met a lady from the UK who went to Rome on a holiday 30 years ago and on the last day met a Roman guy whom she eventually married. She lives in Rome and has one daughter who is 18. We chatted and laughed and well, she bought us one drink, and then a second! I had to get to my train!!! We exchanged numbers and I hope to see her again. Fun.
Getting in the train in Italy is not that easy. If you have a ticket, you cannot change it for an earlier train, even if the train is empty. Also you cannot go to wait at the train, even if you can see it and are worried. (Sara will understand this concept of mine.) Only five minutes before it leaves can you enter the area for trains. Then when you get on they MAY forget to announce (in Italian only if they do say anything) the name of the stop, even though it is too dark to see any signs. Luckily a sweet kid from Morocco decided to have pity on me and ended up chatting with me for hours, until he left for his stop, where he was taking a test to be in the Italian army. After exchanging facebook names, he took a photo of the train schedule for me so I could count the stops and insisted I take a drink box and a banana from him. Like I said, sweet kid.
At 12:30 AM, I got off the train where my lovely Italian family was running up to meet me. And so ends the day!
